Some people think best by looking at spreadsheets and the written word. Others are more visually oriented and respond better to charts and other visual depictions of data.

We work hard to connect with all kinds of thinkers. We connect with our clients’ databases to build dashboards that give your managers interesting ways to understand their performance metrics. It might be something like the gauges shown above that track the store performance of a gas station chain.

We also think that performance relativity is important. Where is your department this year versus the goals set? Where is it versus other departments or stores of its type in your company? Where is it versus your industry averages? Giving people different ways to think about things stimulates creativity. You benefit by generating better informed managers.

Thinking Things Through

Here’s an example of the way we work with management teams. It comes from some work we did for a client who operates 55 convenience store/gas stations. In that industry, employee turnover can often run 100% per year -- a complete turnover of the employees at every store each year! So the question is -- what does that really cost? The fact is, most companies don’t line item employee turnover as a cost. They track the cost of open-job advertising and human resource administrative costs but never really get around to placing a line item on their P&L that simply says “Employee Churn Cost”. So we worked with them to understand the true cost of churn -- and the numbers surprised everyone. In a two year period we placed intense focus on Churn and reduced their turnover approximately 60%. Take a look at what type of savings that can generate.
