Case Studies

Wesco Inc. operates gas stations and convenience stores throughout West Michigan. We worked with them to increase their overall profitability. Our first focus was reducing employee turnover (we call it Churn) as a foundational element of improving customer connection. Using our Performance Amplification methods, WESCO reduced churn from nearly 90% per year to 35% and had 12 consecutive months of record store profits in the first year of our process -- a huge impact on their operations. In the process, their store managers learned more about running their stores and increasing their profitability.

Trillium Staffing Inc. is a 36 office staffing company working with 750 customers in 5 Midwestern States. Our work with Trillium has focused on growing their middle and upper management placement business ... they call it ProSource. Through monthly conference calls covering all of their offices, we have helped them increase those sales over 1500% since the start of the process. Trillium had virtually no ProSource business when we began in mid 2004. Profits from that growing segment now account for more than 60% of the company's bottom line.

When Herman Miller formed its SQA Division, the goal was to offer a new line of office furniture that was Simple, Quick and Affordable. A key focus was “on time delivery” of furniture from the factory which would allow the company and its dealers to reduce inventory. We worked with the Herman Miller staff to analyze throughput of a key production facility. By applying the Profit Amplification process we:

•Decreased Customer Lead time by 71%
•Decreased Labor as a Percent of Sales by 50%
•Increased Production Capacity by 417%.
Our Profit Amplification process has its roots in the manufacturing work we did as employees of and consultants to General Motors in the late 1980’s -- and we have been improving the approach ever since. Our efforts for GM centered on “end of line” failure rate reduction. We reduced that rate by 50% which, at the time, reduced the number of repairs by 300,000 cars per year. Savings to the company were $65,000,000 per year and those savings have continued for 20 years as GM has incorporated the profit improvements across their entire corporation. We left GM to strike out on our own, but we’ll always look at our work there as foundational in what we do today.
